Contains the following types of materials: photographs, negatives. Covers the following war and time period: 1955-1966; Vietnam War. Contains photographs of the following military unit and organization: 337th Field Artillery Battalion; Combat Developments Office. General description of the collection: The Jay D. Vanderpool collection consists of photographs from part of the career of Colonel Jay D. Vanderpool who was involved with early helicopter doctrine and tactical use of armed helicopters on the battlefield. Vanderpool was inducted into the Army Aviation Hall of Fame in 1977 and there are photos of that ceremony. Among the other photos are numerous types of helicopters; the staff of the Sky/Air Cavalry Test Team in 1956; activities at Fort Rucker, Alabama; a United Service Organizations (USO) Show at Qui Nhon, Vietnam, with Bob Hope and his girls; and a number of color photos of Vanderpool's impressive shoulder sleeve insignia from the Korean War and Vietnam War eras.
